OGUN STATE GOVERNMENT REACTS TO ATHLETES' PROTEST OVER UNPAID ALLOWANCES.
The Ogun State Government has expressed disappointment over protests by athletes representing the state at the 22nd National Sports Festival.
Earlier on Wednesday, the athletes blocked the Games Village entrance, protesting unpaid allowances, but the government claims that payment arrangements were already concluded and would be made on Tuesday.
The government described the protest as "unfortunate" and "uncalled for," contradicting the state's values and objectives.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, assured that Governor Dapo Abiodun prioritizes athletes' welfare, adding that payments had commenced, with athletes receiving bank alerts.
Akinmade attributed the protest to "impatience," stating that those who protested did so in error, as all necessary arrangements had been made for payment.
