The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has denied allegations that it released poisoned rice seized from smugglers, which reportedly caused multiple deaths in the town.
The command's spokesman, Isah Sulaiman, in a statement on Sunday, described the allegations as entirely false and misleading.
He emphasized that the command adheres to standard operating procedures for disposing of seized goods, guided by transparency and due process.
Attributing the allegations to unscrupulous elements masquerading as journalists, aiming to misinform the public and tarnish the image of security agencies, Sulaiman urged the public to disregard the unfounded story and refrain from spreading false information.
He reiterated the command's commitment to its mandate of revenue generation, suppressing smuggling, and facilitating legitimate trade, under the leadership of Dr. Ben Oramalugo.
