The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has imposed sanctions on Kenya Airways for violating consumer protection regulations.
This follows the airline's failure to uphold key obligations, including the right to care, full disclosure of terms of carriage, and timely refunds and compensation.
A statement by the NCAA Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, confirmed that a letter of sanction has been sent to Kenya Airways, imposing financial penalties and requiring the airline to take remedial actions.
The statement said the airline has seven days to pay refunds and compensation to affected passengers, including 1000 special drawing rights, warning that failure to comply will lead to more severe consequences.
The sanctions followed a widely publicized incident involving a Nigerian passenger, Gloria Omisore, who was stranded in Nairobi due to a lack of necessary transit visa and received inadequate assistance from the airline staff.
The NCAA had initiated enforcement actions against Kenya Airways in February 2025, and the airline's non-compliance has led to the current sanctions.
