The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says that a Nigerian company, Afrimedical Manufacturing and Supplies Ltd, has received the World Health Organization’s (WHO) prequalification for its 0.5ml Auto Disable Syringes.
NAFDAC Director-General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, disclosed this at a news conference on Wednesday in Lagos, describing it as a significant milestone for Nigeria and the West and Central Africa region.
She noted that this milestone makes Afrimedical the first indigenous syringe manufacturer in Nigeria, as well as West and Central Africa to achieve the feat.
Adeyeye explained that the prequalification, which followed a rigorous process and substantial investment, and aligns with President Bola Tinubu's agenda to promote local production of medical products, enables the syringes to be eligible for national and international procurement.
