INTERPOL TRACES STOLEN CANADIAN VEHICLES TO NIGERIA.
An international police operation, codenamed "Safe Wheels," has uncovered about 150 stolen vehicles in West Africa, with some found in Nigeria.
INTERPOL confirmed in a statement that the operation, conducted by law enforcement agencies in 12 West African countries, led to 18 new investigations and two crime groups were busted, while the stolen vehicles were trafficked from countries like Canada, France, Germany, and the Netherlands.
The Director of Organized and Emerging Crime at INTERPOL, David Caunter, said the Stolen Motor Vehicle database played a crucial role in identifying the vehicles, with 270,000 stolen vehicles identified globally in 2024.
The operation led to the seizure of over 75 vehicles, and Nigerian authorities are investigating six vehicles discovered in Lagos, reportedly stolen in Canada.
