FG TO PAY N45,000 MONTHLY STIPEND TO TECHNICAL COLLEGE STUDENTS.
The Federal Government has announced a monthly stipend of N45,000 for students enrolled in technical colleges nationwide, in a bid to revitalize Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and make it an attractive alternative to traditional university education.
The Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Professor Idris Bugaje, disclosed that the government will also cover teaching fees, pay industry-based supervisors, and finance skill certification costs.
According to him, the initiative is part of a broader strategy to reposition the TVET sector, with a N120 billion grant allocated to support students through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
He emphasized that the grant is not a loan, but rather a support to encourage more people to enroll in technical education.
Bugaje revealed that a legislative bill is being championed to establish a National Skills Fund under the Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) to sustain the program, assuring that the fund will support TVET institutions, both public and private, and promote skills-based education in Nigeria.
