The federal government has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting mentorship and leadership development for the boy child.
The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, stated this on Friday in Abuja during a news conference in commemoration of the International Day of the Boy Child, emphasizing the importance of providing quality mentorship to help boys thrive, regardless of their background or economic status.
Expressing concerns that many boys lack positive male role models, which can negatively impact their development and well-being, he noted that mentorship offers guidance, support, and helps boys build self-confidence, make sound decisions, and form positive relationships with adults.
Speaking on This year’s theme, "Boys' Mental Health and Well-being," which underscores the need for targeted support and guidance for boys, the minister commended the United Nations for recognizing the significance of supporting boys through mentorship, highlighting the global commitment to promoting their well-being and development.
