The Federal Government has launched the Alternate Education and Renewed Hope National Home Grown School Feeding Project to reach 20 million out-of-school and informal children by 2026.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, made this known while launching the programme on Tuesday in Abuja.
Yilwatda said that the project would provide inclusive, equitable, and quality education, addressing the rising number of out-of-school children.
The Minister emphasized that the initiative is a collaborative effort between government agencies to improve school attendance, retention, and human capital growth, while reducing poverty and promoting inclusiveness.
According to him, the project integrates education, nutrition, identity, and dignity, with temporary learning centers, daily school meals, and clean water in marginalized communities, including almajiris and children in informal settlements, to reintegrate them into safe learning environments.
