The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating AIDS in children by 2030.
The National Coordinator of the National AIDS and STDs Control Programme,
Dr. Adebobola Bashorun, made the pledge on Monday in Abuja during a stakeholders’ workshop on Global alliance to end AIDS in children.
He highlighted Nigeria's progress in reducing HIV/AIDS burden among adults and children.
Bashorun noted that Nigeria has made significant strides, with nearly 90% treatment coverage for adults, and is now focusing on achieving similar coverage for children.
He further said that in a bid to support this effort, the government has approved $200 million for the health sector.
According to him, the government and stakeholders are working together to strengthen HIV services for children and adolescents, with a focus on preventing mother-to-child transmission, universal testing, and addressing implementation barriers.
