Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has appealed to the Federal Government to deploy decisive strategies to prevent Boko Haram insurgents from capturing Marte town.
Governor Zulum made the plea after visiting Marte, which was recently ransacked and displaced, with about 20,000 people fleeing to Dikwa.
He emphasized that allowing the displaced persons to stay in camps could make them vulnerable to recruitment by insurgents, particularly the younger ones.
Governor Zulum expressed concern that if Marte falls, the entire Local Government Area, comprising over 300 towns and villages, would be lost to the insurgents.
The governor called on the Federal Government and the Nigerian Army to collaborate to ensure Marte remains secure, reiterating his commitment to supporting security agencies in attaining lasting peace in Borno State.
