BRITISH HIGH COMMISSION PLEDGES TO WORK WITH NIGERIA ON NEW IMMIGRATION RULES.
The British High Commission in Nigeria has reassured Nigerians of the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries, despite the ongoing reforms, as the UK remains a top destination for Nigerians to work, study, visit, and settle.
The Commission said it values the contribution of Nigerians to the UK and emphasizes its commitment to an open and collaborative approach.
The UK government, on Monday, unveiled sweeping changes to its immigration system, aiming to restore order, control, and fairness.
The reforms include ending the social care work visa route, imposing a longer settlement path for migrants, shortening the graduate visa period, and introducing mandatory English language tests for dependents, all in a bid to reduce net migration and promote economic growth.
Although the exact timeline for implementation is unclear, changes are expected to occur gradually.
However, the British High Commission said it will engage with Nigerian authorities once implementation details are available, ensuring a continued strong partnership between the two nations.
