Members of the House of Representatives, on Tuesday, were engaged in a heated debate on Tuesday, over the worsening security situation in the northeast.
Lawmakers from Borno State raise alarm that Boko Haram insurgents have adopted advanced tactics, including the use of armed drones, to attack civilians and military personnel.
The lawmaker representing Bama/Ngala/Kala-Balge Federal Constituency, Zainab Gimba, cited recent attacks that led to the deaths of dozens of farmers and soldiers, with some reports indicating the presence of foreign fighters among the insurgents.
Gimba also expressed concerns about the effectiveness of current military strategies and so, called for comprehensive oversight and re-evaluation.
In the same vein, the lawmaker representing Chibok/Damboa/Gwoza Federal Constituency, Ahmed Jaha, lamented that despite N19.7 trillion spent on security between 2015 and 2019, Boko Haram is returning with greater force and sophistication.
The lawmakers, therefore, called for immediate and serious intervention to prevent further loss of life and territory.
